Let’s face it! In order to make a baby, you need to know when you are ovulating. This becomes even more crucial when you have a desire for a particular gender.

Ovulation is when your ovaries release at least one egg into the fallopian tubes. The egg and sperm must meet up in order for fertilization to occur, and for you to become pregnant. Eggs typically only live about 24 hours, but sperm can live up to several days.

What ovulation predictor kits do is they provide you with information about when your body has a hormone called luteinizing hormone (LH) in it. This hormone appears in your urine. This hormone (LH) surge will be picked up by the ovulation kits, and indicates that ovulation will occur within 24 hours of getting a positive result with the ovulation predictor kits.

Before going on, I want to make sure that you realize that I’m talking about ovulation prediction tests, and not pregnancy testing kits. Ovulation tests are used to help you determine when you should have sex in order to get pregnant. Of course, pregnancy tests are used when you think you are pregnant and want to find out if you are.

Because it is recommended that you test for ovulation a couple of times/day, you need to ensure that you have enough test strips.

There are several different kinds of ovulation prediction kits on the market. Some, such as the First Response Easy-Read One-Step Ovulation Predictor Test, 7-Test Kit require that you look for and compare lines and darkness of the lines on the test strips.

That is why some people prefer the Clearblue Digital Ovulation Tests, 20-Count Box, because they just have to look for the Smiley Face to know that they are experiencing the LH surge. The digital ovulation tests appear more expensive, but they may not be in the long run. This is because they are all individually wrapped, meaning that you can use them when you need to. Therefore, you do not need to feel the pressure that what does not get used right away, has to be thrown away. You can save the unused digital test portions for next month, if you need to determine when ovulation is occurring then.
